Posted on Jay FordVerified A vibrant and enriching story that serves as a celebration of Filipino culture York Arthur Baldwin's Sam and Sophie at the Festival is a delightful celebration of cultural diversity and a heartwarming introduction to Filipino traditions. As the first book in the Mango and Marmalade Stories series, this beautifully illustrated Kindle edition brings the vibrant Filipino culture to life through the eyes of Sam and Sophie, British-Filipino siblings navigating their multicultural world. The story masterfully blends everyday experiences with cultural exploration, offering young readers a glimpse into Filipino festivals, food, and family dynamics. From the rich descriptions of traditional dishes to the lively depiction of a Filipino festival, Baldwin creates an immersive experience that will spark curiosity and appreciation in children. The inclusion of Lola, the siblings' Filipina grandmother, adds warmth and authenticity, highlighting the importance of family and heritage. What truly sets this book apart is its ability to teach while entertaining. The narrative is engaging, the characters are relatable, and the illustrations are vibrant and captivating. Baldwin strikes a perfect balance between storytelling and cultural education, ensuring that children not only enjoy the adventure but also learn valuable lessons about diversity and acceptance. This book is ideal for parents and educators looking to broaden a child’s perspective and foster an appreciation for different cultures. It’s also a wonderful resource for multicultural families seeking to introduce their heritage in a relatable and enjoyable way. While Sam and Sophie at the Festival is a standout, readers might wish for a glossary or additional cultural notes to provide further context for younger audiences unfamiliar with Filipino traditions. However, this does not detract from the book’s charm or educational value.Overall, Baldwin has crafted a vibrant and enriching story that serves as both a celebration of Filipino culture and a reminder of the beauty found in diversity. Sam and Sophie at the Festival is a must-read for families looking to inspire curiosity and cultural awareness in their childrenPosted on Sheila book loverVerified Great Sam and Sophie are twins. They go to a festival to learn about other cultures and traditions. This is a good read, it shows children they can have more than one culture and traditions.Posted on Sharon A LavyVerified Cute Story I enjoyed this book. I will share an excerpt: "We thank you all for coming to this culture day of ours. And may we always remember, that, like the stars, we're unique. And we all have stories and cultures of which we all must speak. This is a great book.Posted on step it upVerified Exploring Other Cultures This book has twins exploring various cultures, food, and games. The children are inspired to share some of their traditions with children at school. A fun way to explore diversity and to introduce the topic. In my eBook version, the top of the pages kept getting cut off.Posted on WordWyrm1284Verified Great story exploring different cultures In this story, our set of twins go to a festival where they learn all sorts of things about other cultures and try all sorts of different foods. I thought the illustrations were great and the story heartwarming with a good message in the end. Five stars.Posted on PNMVerified A Cultural Education This book is a great read and offers a warm and engaging introduction to Filipino culture that’s both fun and educational.Through Sam and Sophie’s experiences, readers get a glimpse into the richness of the festival experience, from delicious food to fun activities.I loved the beautiful illustrations and found it well written.Posted on ColossiansOne13Verified Great story on different cultures Food and games are such great ways to share different cultures with others. This book did a great job showcasing several different games and foods. The illustrations were also wonderful!Posted on S. MahaffeyVerified Excellent Sam and Sophie are British-Filipino siblings. Their mother is Filipino and the father is British. They live in the north of England with their parents and Lola who is a Filipino. Sam and Sophie eat delicious food at the festival. They find different cultures at each turn and sample other foods that they enjoyed. They dance at the festival with the dancers dancing to music. They have a fun day at the festival learning. This is a beautiful and colorful book. It’s a great way to introduce your child to cultures that they may not be aware of. Even though they may not be neighbors, our world grows smaller and are more likely to meet people from other cultures. I enjoyed the excitement and joy of the children discovering new things—its excellent.Disclaimer: I received an arc of this book from the author/publisher from Netgalley. I wasn’t obligated to write a favorable review. The opinions expressed are strictly my own.Posted on EML1111Verified Great story about celebrating traditions Sam and Sophie at the Festival is an adorable story about twins Sam and Sophie, who come from a multiracial family. Their grandma begins sharing stories about their family’s unique traditions, which inspires Sam and Sophie to share these special customs with their friends. They decided to organize a festival to celebrate and showcase the different traditions, which was a great success. As someone who moved from another country, I always found it exciting to introduce my children’s friends to our own traditions. This book beautifully captures that experience. With simple, rhyming text and lovely illustrations, it’s a heartwarming and fun read for children.Posted on Kris BVerified Super cute story This is a great book for kiddos to learn that even though we we each may grow up differently, with different foods and traditions we are truly all the same. Love it.Load more
