Meet Sam

Sam is a lively and energetic boy who enjoys running around, playing games, and exploring new places. His playful nature often leads him into exciting adventures and occasional mischief.

  • He is always curious about the world around him and loves discovering new things. The festival offers many opportunities for his adventurous spirit.
  • Sam admires his sister, Sophie, and enjoys following her lead. He is supportive, loves spending time with his family, and is always ready for new experiences.
  • With a vivid imagination, Sam enjoys creating stories and games, making every day an adventure.
  • Sam likes playing various outdoor games like tag and soccer, always up for a challenge and trying new activities.
  • Although initially hesitant, Sam finds joy in learning traditional dances like tinikling alongside Sophie.
  • Sam is constantly on the lookout for new adventures and discoveries, whether in the backyard, the park, or a new festival.

He loves trying new foods, especially sweet treats, and his favourite festival activity is sampling all the delicious snacks and candies.

Sam and Sophie share an unbreakable bond as twins. They are always there for each other in their adventures. Sophie’s protective nature balances Sam’s love for exploration. Sam cherishes his Lola (Filipino word for grandmother) for her stories and delicious cooking, enjoying learning about their heritage from her.

Meet Sophie

Sophie always has a lot of energy and enjoys discovering new places and meeting new people. Her excitement is infectious, and she often leads the way in their adventures.

She possesses a natural curiosity about the world and enjoys learning about different cultures, which makes the festival a particularly exciting event for her.

Sophie is

  • Caring and Supportive. She is very protective of her brother, Sam, and often encourages him to try new things. She is empathetic and always looks out for others’ feelings.
  • enjoys dancing, especially when she learns traditional Filipino dances like tinikling, with its rhythmic movements and the fun of jumping over bamboo poles.
  • Inspired by her Lola, she helps out in the kitchen and learns to cook traditional dishes. Her favourite dish to make is chicken adobo.
  • loves spending time outdoors, playing games, exploring nature, or having picnics with her family.

 

Sophie and Sam have a really strong connection. Being twins, they pretty much do everything together, and Sophie often plays the role of the older sibling, helping and backing up Sam.

Sophie loves her Lola and enjoys hearing her stories about the Philippines. Lola plays a big part in Sophie’s life, passing on knowledge about their heritage and traditional recipes.

Meet Lola

Lola is the heart of the family, always ready with a warm hug or a kind word. She is deeply caring and takes great joy in looking after her grandchildren, Sophie and Sam.

  • Active and Engaged: Despite her age, Lola is active and energetic. She loves participating in family activities, whether it’s cooking, telling stories, or joining in at the festival.

  • Cooking: Lola is an excellent cook, known for her delicious Filipino dishes like adobo, sinigang, and lumpia. She enjoys teaching Sophie and Sam how to cook and sharing the stories behind each recipe.
  • Storytelling: She loves sharing stories about her childhood, Filipino folklore, and the traditions and festivals of the Philippines. Her storytelling is vivid and engaging, capturing the attention of her grandchildren.
  • Gardening: Lola has a small garden where she grows herbs, vegetables, and flowers. She finds peace and joy in tending to her plants and often incorporates fresh ingredients into her cooking.
  • Dancing: Lola enjoys traditional Filipino dances and often reminisces about the dances she performed in her youth. She likes to watch and sometimes join Sophie and Sam when they try to learn these dances.
