Book Author
Welcome to Mango and Marmalade Stories! I’m York Arthur Baldwin, and I’m delighted to introduce you to the first book in our series. It has been an incredible journey bringing these stories to life, and I’m excited to share them with you and your family.
Our debut series blends British and Filipino cultures, offering a rich tapestry of traditions from both backgrounds. Over the coming months, Sophie and Sam will guide you through vibrant cultural adventures, with even more exciting experiences in our second series, which expands westward across the Atlantic.
Mango and Marmalade Stories aims to help children discover cultures, heritage, and diversity, one tale at a time. Through engaging and heartfelt narratives, I hope to open doors to new experiences and learning opportunities for young readers.

Research shows that exposing children to culturally relevant stories significantly enhances their cognitive, emotional, and social development:
Storytelling Performance and Cultural Familiarity:
Children excel in storytelling when the content aligns with their cultural background, resulting in longer and more coherent stories. (van Hell et al., 2003)
Comprehension and Recall:
Familiar cultural themes improve children's understanding and retention of stories. (Bell & Clark, 1998)
Emotional Attachment and Cultural Beliefs:
Children form strong bonds with culturally relevant stories, often integrating them into their play. (Alexander et al., 2001)
Socialisation and Moral Development:
Storytelling helps convey moral and social standards, varying across cultures. (Miller et al., 1997)
Cross-Cultural Narrative Development:
Cultural narratives are deeply ingrained and can be expressed even non-verbally, as seen in Deaf children's use of gestures. (van Deusen-Phillips et al., 2001)
